How MOQ works on a plush project
MOQ — minimum order quantity — is the smallest run a factory will commit to for one design. On a custom plush it is where your budget meets the real cost of opening a production line: pattern, cutting setup, material sourcing and staffed stations all have to be arranged before the first piece is sewn, and that setup is worth running only over a certain quantity.
It is quoted per design, not per order. Launch three characters in one project and you have three minimums, not one shared one. That matters for teams building a product line: it is often cheaper to phase characters across runs than to open every design at once.
A very small MOQ is genuinely hard for plush because so much of it is assembled by hand across cutting, sewing, stuffing, closing and finishing — spreading that labor over a tiny run raises each piece sharply. Around fifty is the balance we have landed on: a starting point, not a ceiling. Many projects begin well above it once they prove out.
